Keion White NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT INTRODUCTION

Keion White, a former standout at Garner High School, was rated a 4-star recruit. After completing high school, White decided to enroll at Old Dominion.

During his freshman year in 2019, he showcased his talents by appearing in 12 games and played a total of 635 snaps for the Monarchs. White made an impressive 43 tackles, had 11 assists, and made 36 stops. His ability to rush the passer was also noteworthy, as he racked up 45 total pressures, which included 27 QB hurries, 13 QB hits, and 5 sacks.

After a successful first season, White decided to transfer to Georgia Tech in 2020. However, he had a slow start in his sophomore year, as he only appeared in four games and took part in 72 snaps for the Yellow Jackets. He recorded only three tackles, had no assists, and made no stops.

However, things started to look up for White during his junior year in 2022. He played in 12 games and contributed on 584 snaps. White recorded 34 tackles, 14 assists, and made 29 stops. In coverage, he had no pass breakups and no interceptions, and a QB rating of 156.3 when targeted. However, his pass-rushing skills were impressive, as he produced 40 total pressures, which included 29 QB hurries, 4 QB hits, and 7 sacks on the year.

It’s worth noting that White’s transition to Georgia Tech and his slow start in his sophomore year may have impacted his overall performance. Nevertheless, his junior year showed that he has the potential to be a force to be reckoned with on the field.

When it comes to physicality, Keion White is a standout prospect that catches the eye immediately.  With incredible athleticism, White moves in ways that a person his size should not be able to. In one particular play against Virginia, White was able to turn and run down the sideline with a running back on a wheel route, keeping pace with him step for step. On tape, White shows versatility as a pass rusher, able to operate with his hand in the dirt or as a stand-up edge.

In addition to his physical prowess, White has the positional flexibility to reduce inside and pressure the quarterback from the interior. He can drive blockers backward with his heavy punches and lower-body strength, and he possesses the power to soften edges and flatten angles to the football. Furthermore, White has a high motor and does not give up on plays.

SCOUTING REPORT- STRENGTHS

Keion White is a force to be reckoned with on the field. He has an excellent motor and is quick to locate the ball, making him a valuable asset when it comes to stopping the run. White was a devastating player for Old Dominion in 2019, racking up an impressive 19 TFLs when he weighed in at 265 pounds. Since then, White has added weight and now stands at an imposing 6-4, 290 pounds. Despite his size, he has hit a top speed of 21 mph and can vertical-jump 32 inches, while also managing an impressive 38 reps of 225 on the bench press.

White has decent flexibility, which enables him to bend the edge, and he shows good closing speed. He has a tall, solid frame with adequate length and has done an excellent job of losing bad weight and firming up his body. His lethal spin move and pure speed enable him to close quickly on the ball, making him a nightmare for opposing offenses.

Moreover, White has a keen sense of how to work off blockers and knows when and how to counter as the play goes on. This skill makes him a potent threat to opposing teams, as he can adapt to changing situations on the fly.

While White has many talents, there is always room for improvement. He can work on improving his technique and refining his pass-rushing skills, but his natural abilities and instincts make him a potential star in the making. As he continues to develop, he is sure to catch the attention of coaches and scouts looking for a player with a unique blend of speed, strength, and adaptability.

SCOUTING REPORT- WEAKNESSES

Despite his many talents, White is relatively new to the position, which leaves him raw with his technique. He does not consistently use proper punch timing to strike blockers first and disrupt leveraging and balance. This allows blockers to gain initial contact, putting him at a disadvantage. White has ample room to grow in terms of deconstructing blocks, and on the edge, he has the capability to set hard edges but tends to work inside of the blocks, surrendering outside versus the run.

Overall, White brings an outstanding combination of physical size and athleticism, making him a scheme-versatile player that can move all over the defensive front line. When it comes to run defense, he performs best on the edges, specifically outside shade of offensive tackles and versus tight ends. White is still a work in progress from a technical standpoint, but his potential is undeniable. With ample room to develop, he is a toolsy pass-rush prospect with a high ceiling that is sure to catch the attention of NFL teams looking for a player with a combination of power and versatility.
